Day 24

Left Bardstown about 10.30am after a scrumptious breakfast ( see below). Well into western Kentucky, very different to the Eastern side. Less mountainous, less poverty and the countryside is similar to UK, rolling hills and farmland.
Cycled a long hot 75miles today, which included my first puncture. We were 50 yards from our lunch stop ( if your going to have one that's the place). A brief stop at Abraham Lincoln's birthplace, post lunch, just outside Buffalo Kentucky and on our way.
We had a couple of dog incidents today, ( they can certainly appear to be out for your blood), but shouting very loudly "go home" and "no"seemed to do the trick.
There are Amish communities in this area. We have passed some working in the fields, they are happy to give us a wave.
Ended up at a bike stop, a shop along the roadside, that also offers hospitality to cyclists. Arrived at 7.30pm to immediate offers of already prepared food. Spaghetti, bananas and cake, what more could we ask for. This kindness was given by Lucy and Arnold and their daughter Lauren ( pictured on their porch)who enjoy meeting cyclists and offering what assistance they can.
Tomorrow is expected to be hotter( mid 90's) than today, which was in the high 80's. therefore need to get some sleep and try to start out as early as possible.

  1. I am hoping at some stage to see a photo of you enjoying 'biscuits and sausage gravy' for breakfast, which was a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine in Oklahoma.

Hope the temperatures don't get too high.

    Cheers, Gail.
