Day 52

Cycled from Walden, Colorado to Saratoga, Wyoming 68. Miles. Into my 10th state. The route was supposed to be downhill and yes we did drop about 1000 feet, but there was still a lot of climbs along the way. We are still surrounded by the Rockies as we travel across the plains and have seen deer and antelope on our travels today, but no moose or buffalos as yet. The antelope reminded me of the song, "home on the range, where the deer and the antelope roam". There are also plenty of reminders of old westerns with place names such as Laramie and Cheyenne.
Our days cycle was rewarded with a soak in a hot sulphur spring pool in town, very therapeutic. No meal out tonight just camp stove macaroni cheese, mini doughnuts, tea and chocolate, but decision for breakfast in town is something to look forward to.
We are camped by a beautiful lake, though a heavy dose of insect repellent was required on arrival to keep the Mosquitos at bay. It is so quiet here apart from the occasional bird call, very restful.

  1. Hi Sally, I saw grizzly bears in the Rockies (Montana and Canada) when i did a part of the Great divide Trail on my mountain bike last year. We had to put our food into the metal containers at the camping areas. Remember anything that smells like food you need to put there, including your toothpaste. Good luck and there are many more hills and mountains to come. You can do it! Kielo
